The Truth About Wall Ball

I did wall ball this morning.

Let’s be real for a second—doing your wall ball routine is not glamorous.

It’s not the flashy goal that makes the highlight reel or the jaw-dropping dodge that leaves your defender in the dust.

Wall ball is quiet, repetitive, and, let’s face it, hard.

But here’s the truth: if you want to become a great lacrosse player, wall ball isn’t optional.

It’s essential.

To be a great lacrosse player, wall ball isn’t optional. It’s essential.

The first thing you need to understand is that wall ball will challenge you.

It’s a simple concept.

Toss the ball, catch it, repeat.

Of course, there’s lots of creativity and options for wall ball.

But then reality and difficulty sets in.

You realize your weak hand feels, well, weak.

Your passes aren’t always on target.

And sometimes, the ball bounces off the wall at an awkward angle, leaving you scrambling to catch the dang thing.

That’s the thing about wall ball—it exposes your weaknesses.

And while that might feel frustrating, it’s actually a gift.

Every missed pass and every dropped ball is an opportunity to get better.

The next truth?

It takes time to get good.

If you’re expecting to pick up your stick, hit the wall for a few sessions, and magically transform into the

best passer on your team, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Wall ball is about repetition.

And lots of them.

Thousands of throws and catches.

Hours spent hitting the wall when no one else is watching.

It’s not about immediate results; it’s about trusting that every session, every rep, is a small step toward mastery.

And then there’s patience

Oh, does wall ball require patience.

There will be days when you don’t feel like doing it.

Days when you mess up more than you succeed.

Days when it feels like you’re not getting any better.

That’s when consistency matters most.

Because improvement isn’t linear.

Sometimes it feels like you’re stuck in place, but then, almost without realizing it, you’ll notice your passes are sharper, your catches are cleaner, and your confidence has grown exponentially.

Wall ball teaches you more than lacrosse skills.

It teaches you discipline, grit, and the value of showing up—even when it’s hard, even when it’s boring, even when progress feels slow

It’s a reminder that greatness isn’t always built in big, thrilling moments of the game.

It’s sometimes built in the quiet, uncelebrated ones.

So, to every lacrosse player out there: embrace wall ball

It’s not supposed to be easy, and that’s exactly why it works.

Stick with it, stay patient, trust the process.

The wall will not let you down, and in time, your hard work will pay off.

No doubt about it.

Now, go “hit the wall.”
