Dodging.
It’s been an immersion area for me since I came into lacrosse as a coach.
I’m obsessed with dodging because it’s simply one of the highest levels of expressing human movement and that ties perfectly to my background.
What makes my approach to dodging different is that I didn’t learn it from just one angle.
My approach blends speed and agility, strength and power, movement science and biomechanics, and the art of deception.
I became a dodging specialist through years of studying human movement patterns, biomechanics, athletic performance, and the game itself — blending multiple disciplines together into one system designed specifically for lacrosse athletes.
My background as a sports and orthopedic physical therapist gave me a deep understanding of how the body moves, adapts, compensates, accelerates, decelerates, and changes direction.
I became more obsessed with movement quality, balance, force production, joint positioning, and the mechanics behind efficient athletic movement.
Instead of only looking at dodging as a “lacrosse move,” I began analyzing it as a complex athletic skill that combines:
- timing
- body control
- reaction
- footwork
- spatial awareness
- deception
- decision-making
- And, of course, explosiveness
As I transitioned deeper into strength and conditioning and speed performance coaching, my perspective expanded even more.
Studying acceleration, deceleration, change of direction, sprint mechanics, power development, and reactive agility helped me understand why some athletes can consistently create separation while others struggle to get past defenders.
Dodging is not just stick skills (although that’s part of it), it’s movement science.
It is the ability to manipulate space, angles, tempo, momentum, and body positioning in real time against an opponent.
Over the years, I immersed myself in the art and science of dodging.
WHO I LEARN FROM
I’ve studied elite dodgers across women’s lacrosse (ex. Izzy Scane, Charlotte North, Marie McCool, Chloe Humphrey, etc, etc), watched countless hours of film, analyzed movement patterns, footwork sequences, setups, body language, and offensive tactics.
I also learned from high-level coaches, movement specialists, and elite players in men’s and women’s lacrosse who understood how to create advantages on the field.
I became fascinated not only with what great dodgers do, but why they do it and how they consistently make defenders uncomfortable.
That obsession led me to develop a multidisciplinary approach to training dodging, combining lacrosse IQ, biomechanics, speed training, reaction training, footwork development, deception, and decision-making into one integrated system.
My goal has never been to teach robotic cone drills or memorized moves.
I teach players how to “let things happen.”
My goal is to help athletes become adaptable, creative, explosive, confident dodgers who can solve problems in live game situations.
That’s what it’s all about.
Dodging is one of the most dynamic skills in sports because it requires the athlete to process information instantly while moving at high speed (or changes in speed) under pressure.
That challenge is what drew me in.
The more I studied it, coached it, and broke it down, the more I realized there are many layers to dodging that most players and coaches never fully explore.
Today, I continue to study, learn, experiment, and evolve.
Because great dodging is not just about athleticism or stick skills, it’s about mastering movement, perception, timing, deception, and decision-making.
That combination is what ultimately led me to become a perpetual student and specialist in the art of dodging.
Learn to be a dominant dodger, because it will transcend your game.
